One common concern when purchasing a used Ford car is that of safety - however plenty of resources offer the tools to accurately research the ratings and features of older car models.
The Used Car Safety Rating (UCSR) collated statistics from serious car crashes in Australia and New Zealand between 1982 and 2009 to determine a used car's protection level - for both the driver and other road users - based on a 5-star ranking.
According to the latest UCSR results - which analysed more than four million crashes - Ford emerged as a leader in many car segments.
The marque gained top rankings in the large car category, with the Ford Falcon FG 2008-09 receiving five stars. Ford's popular small car - the Ford Focus - received four out of five stars for its models since 2002.
Commercial Ford cars also received top marks, with the Ford Ranger 2006-09 models and the Ford Falcon 2000-08 models receiving five and four stars respectively in the ute segment.
Ford Transit 2001-07 was considered the safest pick of used vans, with models up to the year 2000 being awarded five stars, while the medium 4WDs Ford Territory SX and SY from 2004 to 2009 was also given a top marks.
