Car manufacturer Ford has announced plans to offer its fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines in seven more models, tripling production capacity.
Models already confirmed for EcoBoost power this year include the Ford Falcon sedan, as well as the new Ford Focus ST hatch.
The Ford Falcon will feature the two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost and is expected to be available in the second quarter of this year as an option in the XT, G6 and G6E variants.
The addition of the EcoBoost technology to the Ford Falcon is the first time the engine will feature in a rear-wheel-drive car as part of the marque's global line-up.
"Ford is committed to delivering class-leading fuel economy for our customers," Ford Group vice president of sustainability, environment and safety engineering Sue Cischke said (January 26).
"EcoBoost expansion and availability in high-volume nameplates ... will take this affordable, fuel-saving technology to the heart of the market."
The local arm of the manufacturer is yet to confirm whether or not the new Ford cars announced - including the Ford Escape SUV - will be arriving on Australian shores in 2012.
The current of Ford cars available in Australia are in stock at Sunshine Ford dealership on the Gold Coast.
