More than 2 million Australians plan to buy a new car in the next four years - and many of the units are expected to come from Ford.
According to the latest Roy Morgan Leading Indicators Report for December 2011, the intentions of purchasing a new car among those aged 14 years and above rose by 30,000 on the previous month to reach over 2.26 million.
The research company also estimates that 648,000 Australians intend to buy a new car in the next 12 months - almost six per cent higher than the short-term average.
Ford is among the marques likely to achieve the greatest gains over the next four years, with intentions to buy a new Ford car rising by 1.5 per cent since December 2010.
Models such as the Ford Territory and Ford Ranger have recently proved popular among Australian drivers, being voted as 2011 Drive Car of the Year awards in the best SUV over $40,000 and safety innovation respectively.
Two hatch varieties - the Ford Mondeo Zetec Ecoboost and Ford Trend - were also recognised in the 2011 awards, taking out the title of best family and best small car.
